I'm busy with a full engine overhaul and while waiting for parts I'm cleaning up and removing 30 years of scale and carbon build up in and around the cylinder head.
Something is bothering me. In the head there is a copper (brass?) tube running parallel to the cylinders that carries cooling water through the head. I've cleaned this a much as possible without removing the tube from the head. The water distribution holes are now clear. (I've given up trying to remove the tube for fear of damaging it. It's pretty well stuck and I didn't want to go beyond tapping it from one end with socket and a small hammer.
Here is the question, there is a short plastic reducing sleeve at the one end. I imagine to limit the flow of water.
BUT I don't see this item on any exploded schematic and its not mentioned on the parts list. Is it something specific to this early edition of the engine? Circa 1988.
I bought and installed this engine while building the boat and this is the first major overhaul, so it is an original component.
