I have an 18hp Volvo 2000 series engine and want to get hold of user and workshop manuals, I have managed to find some information for the 2001 / 2002 / 2003 series and wondered if these were the exact same engine (it all looks very similar)

Hi, and welcome to the forums.

The 2000 series engine I believe are all the same, just 1, 2 or 3 cylinder.

There are two types of owner manual, even the basic one gives valuable information, like tightening torques. What it doesn't do though is to show the step by step dismantling and reassembly procedures.

Either manual can be sourced from your VP dealer.

Speaking from recent and bitter experience - the splines between engine and gearbox. The Westerly Owners Association website will explain all. The other thing to be aware of is the injector location - they are held in a copper sleeve that can be disturbed when the injector is removed resulting in coolant in the cylinder. The rest is all fairly standard.

The exhaust elbow will need attention every few years - it will gradually succumb to a very expensive blockage. But the exhaust steam is a good warning....

The gearbox spline can be fixed, but do look at it as Nigel says, if it has not been checked already.
