Voluntary No Anchor Zone – OSBORNE BAY ISLE OF WIGHT

Voluntary No Anchor Zones are pretty meaningless unless people choose to observe them..... or not, as they are finding in Studland.

The difference is that Studland is an MCZ, and MMO could put a legal ban in place. How they would police and enforce it is another matter, but the fines for disturbing wildlife in a designated MCZ are significant. But under current legislation the prosecution has to prove that the diturbance was carried out with the dleiberate intention of destroying or damaging wildlife.

There's a long long way to go on thie whole question of legally enforcable marine conservation. In the meantime the consrvationists continue to try it on, without any actual evidence that anchoring is doing any harm.

It's all unnecessary anyway: you roll there every time a vessel goes past, and there are a lot of vessels that go past.

It's only just bigger than the swimming area you aren't allowed in to anyway. I think when we looked we'd have run aground about 50m before we got anywhere near the VNAZ.
Totally agree.
We anchored in Osborne Bay last Wednesday and I just assumed those bouys were the swimming markers - I wasn't aware of this notice.
There was one smallish boat close to them but most boats were not (being further northwards) and were also further out.
It is no inconvenience at all IMHO

There were a number of black marker 'bouys' around the anchorage and these turned out to be pot markers as the fishing boat turned up on Thursday morning.
