As of this morning I am the proud owner of an elderly Vivacity 24. Hull seems fine but much work to be done topsides and in the cabin - I shall enjoy this challenge.

Question. My boat has the early version of tiller / rudder being hung off the transom with the skeg right at the stern. Reason is it has an inboard and prop. Later boats have the tiller mounted through the cockpit floor and rely on outboard hung on transom rather than inboard. I need to consider this mod. Engine is past its best and I would like this conversion.

Does anyone have any info on this conversion or can they direct me to boat plans so I can see how the arrangement works and get some clues of what I need to do and make ?

Any help to this 'new boy' would be well appreciated.

Thank you..............

Thanks guys. The previous owner had mounted an up down outboard bracket already Should have said. I've never used an 'offset' outboard and worry about tiller arrangement etc.

I have an outboard on a lifting bracket together with a transom hung rudder. No major problems.

You have to mount it so that the rudder blade does not bash the prop.

Moving away from an installation with the rudder behind the prop you lose the manoeuvrability that arrangement gives anyway but with the engine to one side you find that turning tight circles under power towards the side on which the engine is mounted becomes rather difficult but you learn to get the boat moving then throttle back so that the engine is not trying to drive the boat in a circle in the opposite direction. A bit like prop-walk only more so!

I've got a Vivacity 24 too, probably of the same age, though mine has the cut out transom and outboard from production i assume, she sounds in a similar condition. Mines ashore now in Dorset and I'm trying to do her up a bit - some osmosis between the keels and lots of bolts to refit and wood to rub down.
I'd be interested in anything you find out.
