There seems to be an increase in visiting yachts arriving with their own crab/lobster pots aboard, it’s not a problem but if you intend using them you need to be aware that there has been a recent bye law regarding hobby fishing with pots in Scilly, they must be registered and the marker buoy needs to be marked with a tag for each pot on the string. The tags are available (£3 each) from the council at the library. Obviously anything caught must be over a certain size before landing and scoffing. Just to add although there are no actual rules regarding shrimping, locally it is frowned upon to start before the first spring tide in July, this is to allow spawning shrimps to lay their eggs and thus provide a good crop for the following year. Start shrimping earlier and it is likely that you will notice that you are catching many more that are carrying eggs.
