Visiting Gigha

To JD. How are you connecting to the internet on Gigha? When I was there a couple of weeks ago, I couldn't get the wifi to work, and finished up on the 1g dongle.

Very good 3G connection with Three. That's with a tethered phone. The tablet I'm using has a Manx Telecom SIM in it which roams to O2. Five bars, but only GPRS.

Wind has dropped to 15kt gusting 20 kt but it's coming from 238M and the Mull bears 248M. Stuff that for a game of soldiers. Another twelve quid it is, or maybe Port Ellen.

El cheapo leisure pack out and on my bunk as I write. Doesn't include anything useful showing both Gigha and the Mull. Should have got the crew to find me a bearing.

Two boats have left for the north. Nobody is going south. A rendezvous on Arran next week has just been cancelled, so it may be the canal after all.
 
The hardiness of sailors is in a rather sorry state these days.

I go sailing for fun, and my idea of fun does not include gratuitous suffering. Public school alumni and Tory cabinet ministers may not agree, which is their right.

So do I go sailing for fun, and I was educated in a modern Scottish comprehensive school in the late 1970s in a left wing council, with left wing teachers and a left wing family where coal fires, frost on the windows and condensing breath were normal. I do not suffer gratuitousness either. I do own a selection of garb which can be layered for warmth depending on the elevation of the grouse moor. It works remarkably well at sea level too you know.

Actually, I do understand the points being made. As I am currently basking in a rather pleasant 23 Celsius in Western Siberia I am not complaining. The drift of the thread leads me into a topical topic. Before I raise the point, it is absolutely nothing to do with MMGW, so I don't want anyone who may care to comment to discuss that subject. Talking to LadyOldBoots about the miserable weather in South Lanarkshire she stated that there was an article where it mentioned that we are possibly entering one of these mini ice age periods, where the poor die in large numbers and the wealthy buy matches from destitute children and skate on frozen rivers running through their city centres. Has anyone else heard about this being on the way.

No, Russia, LadyOldBoots is in South Lanarkshire. It is warm in Siberia, cold in South Lanarkshire, about 23 v 12 Celsius, which I find a bit topsy turvy considering.
