BBC says cruise ship refused permission to dock in Adelaide because of fungus on hull. It sounds more like normal fouling- can anyone enlighten me about this fungus?
Don’t know the specifics on fungus.
Australia is very conscious of invasive species. Eg rabbits cane toads ect.
European Zebra mussels are a real problem in the St Laurence and Great Lakes. They arrived in ships ballast water. Hence requirement to change all ballasts at sea.
Ships bottom transport various critters and bugs as fouling.
which part of the world the fungus is from I wouldn’t know. I guess the Aussie don’t want it buggering up thier reefs ect.
I wonder what they do about stuff that floats about the ocean, and then gets washed up on the shore. Here, we get all sorts of exotic growths on items washed ashore, which certainly didn't originate in our home waters. (Maybe all driftwood should be antifouled) ?
