It needs the presence of water, so yes, except that my GRP water tank extends above the waterline and it has a couple of blisters

Brokers often state that a boat "shows signs of osmosis" in order to avoid buyers coming back and asking for £10K off. I bought mine with this notation. The signs of osmosis were a full Gelshield treatment.

I found some early stage osmosis under some TreadMaster and a solar panel. Water had been trapped between the surfaces and this started osmosis. Both were very easy to fix. The TreadMaster was removed and teak was fitted instead. The solar panel was refitted with thin plastic spacers to ensure the meniscus could not hold moisture any longer and the air gap kept it dry.
