Not sure but I think Youtube have unblocked the video of my trip up the river to Chateaulin. My apologies in advance if it doesn't work in UK but it's working in France at the moment. (They never seem to appreciate my choice of music!)

Looks good. Thank you for posting.
Can I sail there with a draught of 1.7m and a mast height of about 15m? If so I might take on the challenge next year. Any other factors to think about?

1.7m draft ok as long as you time your arrival at the lock around HW Brest. Lock opening times are generally one and a half hours either side of high water Brest (In daylight hours only) depending on coefficient. I like to leave the ships graveyard (old destroyer and cruiser in video) about two and a half hours before HW Brest making 4 knots through the water so as to have lots of time to admire the scenery. If you arrive at HW Brest with coefficient greater than 80 both gates will be open and you can go straight through. The river is shallowest on the last stretch just before the lock.
Sorry but I am not sure about controlling mast height but think you would be ok. I often sail all the way to the lock but you need a fresh NW wind. Other wind directions which require one to tack are not very do-able owing to channel not being very wide in places and wind being unpredictable because of the contours of the land.
The telephone number for the lock is 02 98 86 03 21 but your French had better be good!

Postscript.
I was there 2 weeks ago and the power wasn't working on the now semi derelict pontoon but there is plenty of room to tie up on the quays on both sides of the river.
If you must have power stop at Port Launay. Power and water on the quay. 5€ a day.

Have they upgraded the showers in P/Launay yet ?

Shouldn't really complain as a German liveaboard lent me his key to showers which he had had cut from the one from La mairie - which I also did - bit cheeky I know :shame:

That would be Udo, and the showers still the same.

Yes Udo, that's the name I was trying to remember, is he still there. Helpful and friendly chap used to have a dog, photographer I believe. Met him in 2004/5 ish while I kept boat there for a year, does he have same boat? (wooden m/sailor).

Is that old rivetted steel herring drifter still there?

Yes, Udo is still there but is trying to sell the boat as he now has a girlfriend in the US and spends a lot of time there. The herring drifter is still there. It's owned by someone who lives in one of the houses on the quay. In the video there is a Scottish Zulu owned by a French guy tied up alongside it.
