Hi,

Question as title : Does anyone know where I can find a video of how to make a sailmaker's whipping in braid ? I mean a normal whipping but with the addition of several longitudinal turns lengthwise down the rope on top of it.

Thanks,

Boo2

Whats to gain with the longitudinal turns on braid? Apart from looking pretty :)

On braid I just use a common whipping but put the twine through the rope once or twice at each end of the whipping using a needle then tiny spot of superglue sometimes where the twine disappears just to finish off. Last for absolutely ages. Not sure if the superglue does anything though.

Sailmakers whipping is totally unsuitable for braid IMO.
Westcountry whiping is the one you want.
Or a common whipping with a half hitch on each round turn to make it look fancy,
as done on tillers and wheels as a grip.
