I'm just installing my Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/50 and have a couple of questions for the solar experts.

My domestic bank is compromised of 4 batteries in parallel. 3 x Exide EA1050 105ah AGM and 1 x Exide 85ah AGM (supplier used this odd one for some reason).

In the Victron Connect app under "Battery preset" I have the option of Rotary switch, User defined, Select Preset and Edit Presets. Currently it's selected as "AGM Spiral Cell". Does this sound right? There is nothing in that list of presets that looks closer to AGM, I'm just unsure of spiral cell bit.

With the above battery bank setup what would I be looking to set for Absorption Voltage (14.70v), float voltage (13.80v) and equalization voltage (16.50v)?

Also, I haven't yet connected the panels but on the Status screen I see under Battery that Voltage and temp is correct but current shows 0.00A. I was expecting this to show a figure reported by the smart shunt I have in the system and setup on the VE.Smart Network?

Many thanks in advance,
Simon

If you can ask Exide for the correct voltages and absorption times you can set up custom settings. No need for presets

If these are a recent purchase I'd be asking why the 85ah was supplied, it is 'common wisdom' that all batteries are the same ah in a bank.

Long story short but it was done by a yard in France during lockdown and long enough ago they won't be interested. I will eventually replace with a matching battery but should be OK for now?

On my 24v boat I have two mis-matched starter batteries wired in series. It was all I could get in Panama about 4 years ago. I installed a Victron battery balancer across the two batteries. This monitors voltage of the batteries and if there is a difference it bleeds off up to one amp to the low voltage battery to balance the voltages. So far so good.

Hi all

I am a complete newbie to solar. I've just setup a victron smartsolar mppt 100 50 controller with 2 x 175w renogy flexible panels in series. I'm charging 4 x Exide ea1050 batteries. I'm lost as to what battery profile I should be using for this. Currently it's set to agm spiral cell (I believe these batteries are sealed lead acid?) and absorption is set to 14.7, float 13.8 and equalization 16.5. Do these settings look correct?

Many thanks
Simon

Just had the following reply from exide, alot of it doesn't mean much to my simple brain

Bulk Charging (Constant Current)12 volt Battery
Charge at a constant current rate of no more than 10 times I20 to a voltage of 14.8V (example; For C20=100Ahr, the max charge current is 10x5A or 50A).

Absorption Charging (Constant Voltage)12 volt Battery
Charge with 14.7V - 14.9V limit for 12 to 24 hrs or when current drops below 1% of the C20 rating (example; C20=100Ahr, the low current shut off is 1%x 100 or 1A).

Float Charging (Constant Voltage)12 volt Battery 13,7V

Trickle Charging (charge maintenance during extended storage)
Charge voltage on point - 12.50vCharge voltage off point - 13.5v Limit current to 0.4 times I20
