VHF transmission "fade"

We have had a couple of instances where we have called marinas who have heard our first call but not our subsequent communications.

I don't think it was that we were over spoken as the hand held seemed to work fine.

Receiving seems to work just fine.

Any ideas on what to look for?

Tandy/Radio Shack used to make a VHF Signal Strength Meter about £25 could be worth trying to find one. Same fitting as a boat aerial cable socket.

I'd suggest either looking for a new radio....
Or maybe a little 'DW' icon on the display?
Something a bit similar happened at the club the other day, one of the radios was on Dual Watch and it seemed to be pot luck which channel it transmitted on!

Apart from that, does selecting high or low Tx power make any difference?
