VHF - quickest way to obtain qualification - Kent!

Thank you all, we will be buying two portable VHF units, same as the ones we use with Sea Scouts - both Steve and I now volunteer with Cambria Sea Scouts, so every Friday we normally have a radio and use their private band under their license, so have a bit of experience now! Also - I am ex Navy....

See there is a course near by soon, will be investigating that for at least me, my calendar can free up as and when needed.

Many thanks everyone, loads to go on.

Cannot wait!

God help me! I only did it a month ago and i cant even remember it correctly !!!! and you are right , ive just played the sample video tramsmissions from my online course, and it is one or the other...doh!.....Lets hope i never have to use it in a mayday situation.!

Sorry if this is stating the obvious, but it's a great idea to create an emergency instruction card and leave it on the dash. Mine has the full Mayday script along with the boats call sign, the procedure for making an emergency DSC call, etc.

On the reverse it has the number of the Spanish lifeboat service, the general Spanish emergency number for contacting the coastguard and the marina contact details.

It's all written in a way that my wife could understand it and I had it laminated (at Rymans who charge a £1 or so).

Very good idea, a number of the instructors at Cambria have similar.
