It's not a case of just fitting a new one. I have a handset with the wrong connection and a speaker that is not working. Happy to work on most things but not electrics.

Whereabouts are you this weekend? Could just pop in and have a look - otherwise a marine engineer should be looking at it.
Having said that, fitting VHF radio etc. is a very simple job - so don't waste your money. If the speaker isn't working and the VHF is working, then it is probably a loose connection, it has two wires (+/-) so need to double check those, and if it is connected via a socket and it usually bends, then most probably that's the faulty point!
Most VHF radios work on 12V system not 230V (just in case you are worried!)
