VHF Call Sign - zero or letter O?

I think the answer to this may be that it is a letter O ( Oscar) not a numeral 0 (zero) simply beacuse they dont use zeros in call signs.

Will wait now to be proved wrong

I think you are correct for UK call signs, but many other countries use both Oscar and Zero. For example Belgian call signs all start with Oscar followed by another letter then four digits which may include a zero.

Yes, when I took my VHF exam in the 90s we learned two -stage numeral: NADA-ZERO; PAN-TAH-FIFE, for example. Currently gearing up for the GMDSS update, and the "international" aspect of numerals appears to have disappeared.
