VHF Antenna silly brain fade question

What is the exact name of the terminal fitting I need to thread into the base of the antenna. I'm using RG58 coax. I just can't seem to find what I need though I know its dead simple really..... Its a Glomex antenna and the I.D. of the thread seems to be 8.5mm

I'm hoping the connector is still on the other end of the old cable but seeing as I'm off to the boat for the first time since October I can't be certain so want to go equipped with a spare.

Think I've found my own answer. It's a solder less fitting kit that comes with the antenna. Mine may still be up the mast somewhere....I've enquired to Glomex about a replacement.

Not a silly question at all. I believe it is called a PL259 male connector. You might have to specify that it is for RG 58 coax cable; mine is RG8X. They come in both a solder-free version and the traditional type that requires soldering. I have used both. I got a HAM radio friend to show me how to do the soldering, but now there is this thing called You Tube

PL259 is the typical VHF antenna cable male fitting, SO239 the typical antenna base female connector, they are also called "UHF connectors", none seem to fit the one in the picture, google for images.

You are absolutely right. I just enlarged the picture in the original post, and put on my specs. It does not look like it takes a PL259. Sorry for the confusion.

The most common VHF coax cable plugs and sockets are PL259/SO239 or BNC. The picture looks like a special so I suspect Glomex is the best source of information.

Some PL259 plugs have a screw-in barrel. The aerial fitting shown may utilise this but need to know the size of the internal thread? Like this one?

The connector at the antenna end is not a PL259, it is a FME connector.

Doing what I should have done first...I sent an email to Glomex in Italy and received a reply in a couple of hours. The parts are available and they gave me part numbers and suggested I try their UK distributor to "Avoid excessive postage costs for an outside the EU delivery ". Hmmm....who'd have thought it eh

I have therefore emailed the UK Distributors in Bicester and await a reply.
