I need to do some work on my Vetus helm pump.the shaft oil seal is leaking and needs to be replaced.apparently it comes with a service kit from Vetus.how easy is it to replace these parts.
Cannot find a manual showing how pump is put together.is it complicated??

If you leave the internal elements alone very very simple.

The Seal is a single lipseal 42 OD 25 ID 6 long (ignore earlier mention of a quad ring that is on a Seastar)

I took these when I stripped the Vetus pump on my boat before last ...

Many thanks for the information very helpful.are there any other serviceable parts in the pump.
Are there any valves that may need to be replaced?
Thanks again

The reason I stripped mine was because there was a hydraulic oil weep in the casing, so I stripped it, cleaned it ,including boiling the casing in hot soapy water, then used aluminium repair rods to seal the fissure in the casing.

I did not strip out the hydraulic elements, and imagine they coudl be quite fiddly.

I think there are not any valves in the pump itself. If you have dual pumps then I think the valves to prevent back flow are in the external outlet ports. I did fit an autohelm hydrauic pump to that boat but didn't have to add anything to the helm pump.

Ages ago replaced weeping seal on Princess 33 helm pump.
Got fed up wiping the leaking fluid off the glassfibre below the pump.
Found a diagram in installation manual , bought a new seal and fluid.
Cannot recall any special tools being required.
Dismantled as little as possible
One of those jobs you put off and then having done it, wonder why you were so bothered about doing it in the first place.
Topped up , never had any leak after that.
