Vetus Bow Thruster

Hi,
I have a small 25Kgf Vetus Bow thruster on my boat which has a 6 blade composite prop. The owners manual recommends the anode is changed when the boat is lifted.
Is it considered standard practice to change the bow thruster anode each time the boat is lifted for antifouling etc.

I have the 75kgf and checked the anode behind the prop last month after it had been in the water for 12 months. I reckon 20% was wasted so decided it would do another season. New anodes are about £30 and come complete with new fixing screws.

There's no "standard" practice. Depends on the burn rate of your anode. I find the b/t anode only needs doing every 2nd year at most and I wouldn't be surprised to hear some last 3 years

I inspected my anode this year (1st season with the boat) and found it had dissappeared. Will be replacing mine every year ( not the easiest of jobs with hands like meat plates!) - Guess though it depends on your circumstances.

Is there any other maintenance on the bow thruster that you do annually? The motor on mine is not easy to access, so oiling etc is going to be a pain.

I check the brushes - though so far there is little wear on them.
