The Vetus manual recommends that the brushes are inspected every year and replaced if necessary. The trouble is (for me at least) is that it does not say how to get at them other than,

" remove the protective cover from the relay and the the protective cover from the brushes "

Just one problem.... The ruddy manual does not show which these covers are.

I have a grey plastic cover (held on by 2 plastic nuts) have taken that off but that seems to be where the cables comes in. Then there is the yellow cylinder. is this it??

Would be very grateful for some help from anyone who has done this job or can direct me to a source of info /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thanks

Rob

Yep its in the yellow cylinder, there should be a metal strap going around the rear of the motor tightened by a small nut and bolt pulling the ends together. The brushes are under this. Given that its only a glorified starter motor i would not expect the brushes to need attention for many years.

The grey cover covers the relays and the part with holes around the yellow cylinder is the cover over the brushes

If you remove the whole of the yellow cylinder you find the bit that drives the prop. It has a shear pin in it which "shears" /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif if the prop fouls.

We have had this happen twice, (at very inopportune and embarrasing moments), so keep a supply of pins taped to the thruster.
