In the last couple of years, I have said 'Goodbye' to a few boats.

Fufu, the Shetland 570: She had a little character, but frankly, at £3000 a little disposable.

Shamby: A very pretty if zigzaggy Scarani 700 Sportcruiser, not really up to the job in hand, but cost enough to bid a farewell stroke to...

No Regrets: Not exactly bank-breaking stuff, but today, I said goodbye, after emptying out a second bootfull of stuff.

I sat in her cabin, and looked around at thirty years worth of good honest service, the still eminently servicable wood infrastructure and excellent design, and suddenly felt an overwhelming sadness.

What had this lovely little vessel done to deserve being sold?

We had spent only a year together, but nearly every weekend either cruising faultlessly up and down the prettiest part of the loveliest River, or just together while I fettled her intimate parts to the best of my ability, and she never let me down.

However strong the current, Red the boards or stern the lockies glare, this boat did whatever the helmsman commanded.

When the sun shone, she excelled, providing a sound platform to swim from, eat drink and laugh upon, and always got us home safe and sound, sipping only a morsel of fuel, while everyone else complained.

I confess to shedding a tear today, wondering why....

I hope the next boat is worthy of such affection, or I'll be sorely upset..... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Is this normal?

Give it a couple a months and you will wonder how you ever managed with such a tiny soap dish for so long, another few months, when the bills start coming in,spect you will wonder why you ever sold her. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

All in the name of progress John. I remember last year you were questioning us on how to get SWMBO to stay overnight, you achieved that with No Regrets, I'm sure your new one, name escapes me (Nepthys or similar), will live long in your memory too.

Yup ,
I noticed my first boat had gone from the moorings the other day and although i didnt cry like a girl as you did /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif It brought back loads of fun memories and also made me wonder if getting the bigger boat was a good idea as i just dont use her as much . I wonder if its the fact that the little boat was the one people have most fun in because it was the first boat or the fact that they went out in it more rather than going down to clean it ?

You're all correct of course, I'm looking forward to our first Broom (Other than SWMBO'd normal form of transport of course /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ) but until emptying No Regrets lockers today, I didn't realise how trusty and therefore, IMHO how fond I had become... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I really hope Nephthys, should the deal come through, be as good!

With bigger more spacious boat you can go further afield and for for longer periods in comfort. It also tends to open your horizons a bit and to bring cruising options within your grasp that perhaps you will not have considered with a smaller vessel.
