very bright land-based white light?

Does anyone know where this light emanates from?

It was a real pain in the... eye the other night sailing down the River Blackwater.

It seems to be coming from near Maylandsea marina / boat yard.

This webcam shows it (at night) - MEGA bright. Webcam is from Blackwater Sailing club looking downriver towards Osea Island.

At my age, I have been advised not to go anywhere near a bright white light if I see one

Looking at the daylight image of the same webcam, that has to be the Caravan site in Lawling Creek. That bright light would have blazed away very close right where the best anchorage spot is.

Re: very bright land-based white light?

If there is a bright light showing from the caravan site, is there not a bylaw or something against it?

I ask this because when our yard proposed putting lights on the pontoons, someone objected on the grounds that the lights could interfere with navigation. The yard was told in no uncertain terms that it could not install lights by the council or bailiff or someone.. This could be just an excuse to avoid spending a few quid on lights of course but it sort of makes sense.

Worth an email to the bailiff?

Just a thought.

Good idea.

I would have thought Nigel (as a sailor as well as River Bailiff) would have seen this light though.

Will try to have a word.

I tried to shield my eyes from it to preserve night vision, but it is amazingly bright.

Re: very bright land-based white light?

Seems a very real problem, and I have just written to the River Bailiff to make him aware of it.
