In one of my less busy moments i had cause to nip over to the vendeeglobe.org sites and check out the chart. If you flick the cursor over one of the coloured dots, it shows the boat name, skipper and current speed automatically picked up from each boat, it says. Cept if you absentmindedly check one of the three boats that have already arrived, they are listed as doing variously 8knots or more, which is a good trick whilst up against a pontoon, even for a 60 foot raceboat.
Either they must ringem up and the contestants lie thru their teeth ("ooh yes i'm doing 23 knots"), or the orgainsers routinely add 8 knots to the speed to make the race look dead aargh exciting. Or perhaps the boats haven't really got home yet, it's all a fix like in that film Capricorn1 when they pretended to go to the moon, or the boats are being nicked right this very minute. Any ideas?
