Vendée Globe 2016-2017

Now is definitely his time to push himself and that magnificent boat as fast as they can go. 2 knots more over 48 hours and he has Armel in his sights. As they are both in the same winds and wind angles now we should know by tonight or tomorrow how they compare and if it's possible. Only problem will come when he has to tack onto port and we know Armel has the advantage then. I obviously want Alex to win, I'm a huge fan but I'd love to see it coming right down to the line, they both deserve the win.

Wow last 30 miles Alex averaging 23.1 kts to Armel's 20.9 - he must be pushing the boat hard, just hope nothing breaks. Next update 18:00 French time - so exciting. Come on Alex, hang in there!

109 pages - is this thread a record?

No next update is 1500 French time or 20 mins from now :)

If Alex does have a speed advantage then it won't hurt for Armel to see him breathing down his neck. Pile on the pressure and see who cracks first. At some stage, one of them will need to sleep!

Eh? Letting the opponent feel that they’re winning is THE classic way to give an opponent false confidence and get them to ease off. Think everything from Ali’s rope-a-dope of Foreman, Battle of Hastings and lots more. I’ve faked positions on unofficial transat races - making it seem i am lots slower than in reality, and both times with success. Obviously the loser then hates your guts, but if it’s the winning that counts then faking a problem, or weakness, or in this case slow speed .. is the way to go. And rob it on the very last lap.

Sounds like you're almost as sneaky/competitive as me! ( Old query - 'Are you a competitor, or just a participant?' )

We got Class plus Series Win in 2003 Fastnet doing just that - and more - against bigger, faster and better-equipped multis.... and one of them with the 'handicapper' aboard, with his 'fiddle-factor' laptop. Whitebait!

Conrad ........................... has lost the plot

well hum! - How strange! He must have sailed oceans before?... and on all but the most well-hacked ... there are few boats or ships or anything to be seen whilst crossing any of them? And even on a E-W milk run transatlantic it is pretty standard to see no other vessels, no planes, nothing.
