The latest news of the site seems to suggest that Armel is somewhat rattled. It still looks as though he has a slight wind advantage but it looks like Alex might have the advantage again soon. It will be interesting to follow the finish.
Aggghhh.
Armel has increased his lead by 40 miles in the last 24 hours, 20 of those in the last 4 hours.
Eric has pulled away from Conrad a wee bit and they should both round the Horn tomorrow, hopefully while it is light.
Rich Wilson continue to nip and tuck with his group, still at the rear but at one point today he briefly took 13th place but at 1800 GMT had slipped back again. RW is a real inspirational chap who has set up a worldwide schools programme that uses the Vendee not just to inspire interest in sailing but also to educate kids in science, engineering, environmental matters etc. He has managed to recruite a whole load of experts to facilitate and support the programme. Top Bloke.
AT taken to bird spotting haha
So that's why he's losing ground.
CONCENTRATE on your sailing Alex![]()
In other news https://gis.ee/vg/ will shortly have realtime AIS data from AT and ALC!! No more waiting for updates.
Are these Class A or B AIS or are they satellite tracker units?
......and so I go from checking 4 times a day to hourly - eek ;-)
I feel that the expected advantage that HB might have over BP on starboard, willl only be noticed when the wind is well aft of the beam. Unfortunately, the current winds are NE'ly, giving a TWA of only around 70 degs, which seems to favour Armel. Alex's problem with the Nr 1 Furler may also contribute to his lack of competative speed upwind. He is still in contention, but needs the winds to go aft, which doesn't look like happening any time soon!
