Vendée Globe 2016-2017

looks to me like they are sailing the same route. Just gybing downwind at the moment because of the wind angles and the exclusion zone.

Thanks to the French Navy for some excellent footage - these are amazing machines sailed by some amazing folks in some very challenging parts of the world.

Well done to both Alex and Armel, and indeed the rest of the fleet, I for one are humbled by their skill, stamina, strength and determination.

Well done the French navy for that fantastic footage ,
do we have a frigate down there to film the next section ??

When and more significantly , how ,will Alex change his rudder ?

andwhat will it cost him in time and distance ?

I can't find any reference to a broken rudder either. He has said he will remove the stub of the broken foil at some point, but I don't think that will require stopping anywhere. If a change of rudder was required, it looks to me that it would be a relatively (!) simple operation with the boat on the appropriate tack.

Am I right in thinking he wasn't' clipped on during his helicopter-filmed walkabout?

I thought the same, and concluded that he wasn't, although I noted he WAS wearing a lifejacket/harness.

Being dragged at 20 knots or more would make getting back on board close to impossible?

But he did, unusually, have a French navy helicopter immediately overhead, so he probably calculated that he would be plucked from the water, and put back on board Hugo Boss in short order.

It wouldn't be good to be disqualified for outside assistance, though.

Thanks to the French Navy for some excellent footage ......

Did anyone else notice the state of the gloves being worn by the pilot? End of one finger hanging out and a split right up the side on his right hand....... Perhaps they're his lucky pair of gloves!

I see J-P Dick went into the ice exclusion zone and he to retrace his steps and exit at the point of entry - cost him quite a lot of time

A bizarre mistake - asleep at the wheel or being a bit of a dick?

Apparently he had not updated the coordinates of the ice-line (it was changed since the start)

Hi All
Just a quick question for those of you in the VG know ...
Ive just returned from crewing on a friends boat from Cape Verde to Barbados
Around daybreak on Thur 10th we saw what we took to be a VG boat sail across our bow (CPA 2 miles) at 30 knots.
Skippers words were "Holy Cr@p" !! - we only one other boat all the way across.
AIS showed him running at 30 knots but showed the boat name as "Sobido 4" or something similar.
I dont see that name on the list of entries - anyone know who it might be ?
Thx
