Very Interesting indeed. Dame Ellen said Alex had a spare foil and fitted it![]()
[Edit/ reason: gullibility]
As the orange one says: fake news!
Good luck Alex - we're all rooting for you.

It was in a locker with his spare keel but he couldn't move it out of the wayIf he had a spare foil and had the ability to fit on the move he would have done it yonks ago.

Did she actually say that? Dame Ellen on R4 today programme
Please excuse my ignorance in this-Do the Vendee racers know where each other is?
She did indeed. Go to - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08bhpbs and skip to 1:46:45
Maybe she's not following the race hence her mistake in saying that.
The event organisers and spectators must be thrilled to have such a close finish and in daylight, presumably.
Would these foils not have been designed to be interchangeable?
Are dagger boards interchangeable for that matter?
I imagine they are big bits of kit to carry a spare....
Tides becoming important now ...
They're very heavy. Currently he's speeding along at 13 knots on the port foil, which is in the water. How on earth is he going to take it off and fit it the other side? Even if it were possible to do it with the boat stopped, that would lose him the race anyway.
I seem to remember (might have read it on this thread actually so take this information with a bit of caution) that each foil was around 250kg. Anyway I imagine that they have a certain aerodynamic shape, and I don't think that they would be interchangeable (i.e. the port one being put on the starboard side).
