I acquired a Moody 333 with a fine display of analogue instruments on the hatch garage. The trouble is that the masthead unit is damaged. It lacks the rotating anemometer cups. There is a rather loose dangly spindle that seems to have secured the absent bits. The vane turns freely and seems OK and the main fitting is robust and intact. I have all the serial numbers from the masthead fitting and from the analogue instruments. It would be very good simply to be able to replace or repair the existing VDO masthead unit. However, that seems unlikely unless I can find a supplier of appropriate anemometer cups and some means of testing.
I have been in touch with VDO in Birmingham who were courteous, but no longer hold any spares.
The boat has a fairly recent EchoPilot combined log and depth display which I doubt will interface with any wind display to show true wind. That may not matter, apparent wind is what we sail with. I don't intend to race. However, I do need to set up some means of measuring wind speed and direction I guess I could go for the cheapest reliable stand alone. The trouble is I don't much like digital displays for this purpose.
I shall be grateful for advice.
