Vat Issues bring boat back from Spain.

Ok got it, so it would be daft to bring it back. So I sell it, then I purchase another one in the uk, can I take that to Spain , and travel backwards and forwards.

Provided you're not an EU resident, you can use Temporary Admission to take a UK boat to the EU for up to 18 months - you can then take it out of the EU and then back in.

PS, even thought the boat can remain in the EU for 18 months at a time, you can't - you're limited to 90 days in any rolling 180 window.

Hi everyone, i bought an English registered boat in Spain, she had one previous owner. That owner purchased it from new in the UK, so obviously paid VAT on the initial purchase. Ive bought it from him in Spain, No VAT paid obviously, but i want to bring it back to the UK. Im not liable for VAT am I ?thanks guys

Just out of interest, was it originally delivered to the UK and if so does it still have the original UK VAT invoice?

I would think that after reading all this the OP is about ready to blow his own head off. Imagine he sold it bought one in the UK then on a trip back with the new one for a holiday the French Plod (who don't like us brits at the moment if indeed they ever did) said... Your Papers Please, Looked then up and down and proclaimed these are not in order............. Well I voted Brexit so I guess it is all my fault.

I thought that VAT Stood for Value added and if you dont add value there should be nowt to pay. Well that was the original idea. Now....... Not so much I surpose.

Stay here in the UK I say and stop gadding all over the place. We have plenty of nice water to boat on provided you can avoid all the French Trawlers

Provided you sort any tax issues, eminently do-able.
If you meant boating to and fro, forget it on time/cost grounds.

I have never had any problems with French trawlers.

The only time I have come very close to a collision in my boat was when I nearly rammed a French customs cutter when I was under sail.

I think he meant towing the boat to and from on the ferry and roads. It is a trailable boat
