Vaseline for the balers

Or, as a mark of my eccentricity, I could wear a ten-gallon hat?

That reminds me, I saw a perky little chrome / polished stainless flagstaff in Force 4 the other day. Intended I think for the bows of a motorboat, but it would be about the right size for a taffrail ensign staff on a dinghy.

That too, of course. But one must think of one's apparel, and suitably ostentatious storage for headgear & other finery...

Actually I think I'm sold on setting up a masthead block with burgee halyard, for determining wind-direction. Though it might be obscured if I hoist my collection of empty lemonade bottles as a masthead float. Dear me, it's getting to be a real "don't buy one, make one", Blue Peter-style operation...

Thanks for that. I'm glad the weather turned rainy today. I already have much work to do, it being the end of the month (tedious business not worth explaining)...plus numerous tasks I'd like to complete before possibly getting a sail at the weekend.

Vaseline is on the list too now, along with a burgee, halyard & block, brace & bit for the rowlocks, machine-screws, outhaul hook, sail-repair tape for the boat-cover, whipping twine, new duct tape, waterproof phone-cover...

...and that's after the rather basic essential of a trapeze harness.

To fit hole 59x118mm. they are plastic and have Super Shute 90 IYE written on them, My merlin is firewood a long time ago. It came to a sad demise doing a dry capsize off it's trailer due to a strange gust of wind at Windermere. Could it have been a white spirit?

Sorry, not quite the right size for my boat, but I think eBay would find a buyer.
Was your Merlin no 2910, a Ghost Rider design called 'White Spirit'?

I often wonder why a 5-litre version isn't available of the same design...

I was wrong - a big version is available, at about £8... http://pinbax.com/index.asp?selection=detailed&uid=40014&cg=7&mc=64&cct=4&sc=282
