Just finished 8 coats varnish on my oars. How long to leave them so varnish hardens. They are inside at a temp of approx 15 degrees c

A couple of variables I reckon. How long between the previous coats? How thinned were the previous coats? What temperature were they in when they were being coated?
I'm sure that others will be along with other thoughts.
Are you wanting to know how long before you can use them? You can't use them, ever. You'll need a Honda 2.3hp!:encouragement:

NONE OF YOUR INFERNAL INVENTIONS PLEASE, what is a Honda?

Sorry to hijack, can I have some advice on varnishing?

I removed some teak pieces from my cockpit took them home and sanded them up they now look great. I've cleaned with meths and given 1 coat of exterior varnish. Where to go next?

Sand and another coat?
Sand clean with meths and another coat
Or straight to another coat?

Thanks In advance

About four more coats, then let harden a few days, wet and dry sand and one or two final coats being really really careful about dust.

Did you thin the first coat slightly: it slows drying but I think helps long-term adhesion.

Unvarnished silvery teak is right for decks, but for a lot of other stuff nicely varnished looks gorgeous.

Reading this reminded me of an episode we had with a Redwing Dinghy years ago. She had been varnished in a hurry outside, during February, to be ready in time for the RYA Dinghy Show that was held on the first weekend of March at Crystal Palace. Inside, in the warmth of the exhibition hall, her deck of many coats became sticky again and even began to ‘flow’ here and there. We covered the dodgy patches with our advertising leaflets..
