Hi everyone.
Has anyone suggestions for varnishing wooden cabin sole-simulated teak laid.
Over the years have used Spinnaker gloss varnish, brilliantly hard wearing and surprisingly non slip- the over shiny finish subdues nicely after first two years wear. Spinnaker is now unavailable.
Contacted Epifanes as to their recommendation for the job and their advice is matt cabin varnish. Have tried this on two boards- looks good but is fiendishy slippery if not wearing shoes - ie. socks!
Has anyone a suggestion- do not want to use additive as impossible to get even finish. Do not want to try gloss again.
Any ideas gratefully received !

For near all marine woodwork - I use Deck Stain ... the stuff used to protect balcony / decking etc. It is water based - soaks in quick - dries quick - is weather resistant - easy to wipe another coat on later ..

It brings up the natural quality of wood without overpowering as in varnish. You can get it in clear or as many wood forms as there are woods !

Here's my transom locker tops ... 3 guesses which are stained - which are not ...

I have yet to do my cabin sole - but will be using the same .... its matt finish - so non slip ... when wet - it does not make it slippery .. as you are actually still on the wood.

If you use on surfaces that you would like to be gloss - such as 'furniture' - once dry - best leave it one day - you can overcoat in any varnish / lacquer of choice.

Here's some of the work refurbing woodwork on the MoBo I bought ...

That hatchway was discoloured with mould and damp ... sanded back - stained and then gloss applied ...

Similar done in cabin ...

Le Tonk for every varnishing job.

I have it on the sole and it works well.

Note: I never just wear socks, always have some footwear as I've stubbed my toe far to many times.
Sympathise! But hate ruining the teak with wet or gritty shoes. Thanks for heads up re Tonk..new to me

Epifanes Satin finish which is what all my internal wood is done in. I don't find it slippy in shoes (or slippers!). Three mats on the way into the boat, one outside, two inside. Cut down car floor mats or carpet samples. Boat shoes stay on the boat.

Apply two top coats on top of normal yacht varnish for durability.
