Varnish that doesn't darken Teak

My favourite for many years was Cetol Marine, Natural rather than teak coloured . If I did not still have half a tinfull I would now use International Woodskin, the product which replaces it. Although not a high gloss its beauty is its low maintenance. A light sand and a fresh coat is all it requires.

I agree with Le Tonk. I did my teak woodwork with it 2 years ago and gave it a light rub down this year and one more coat.

If this is external teak and not subject to wear then Woodskin is easy to apply and durable.

The two-part polyurethane varnishes seem to darken wood less than conventional varnishes, I think. Said to need careful preparation for teak but I've never used them for that myself.

I think I recall the product.Sikkens Cetol originally . Worked really well on window frames.
Thanks for all the excellent replies.

You will get more tint from various non-varnish finishes.

However, if you are widening your parameters to non-varnish and tinted, I use Sikkens Cetol HLS plus (light oak) followed by Cetol Filter 7 plus on teak toe rail and grab handles with excellent results and easy maintenance.

We use the International one, perfection plus, on our cover boards and coamings on our XOD. Minimal darkening, long life. 6 coats of international primer/sealer and 3 of the 2 pack. Not sure if it’s a labour of love, or just to avoid shame in a very well maintained fleet.

Cetol HLS/No7 2 part is probably the best of the stains and is available now almost tint free. I used it on all the new fascia boards on my house (but heavily tinted) and light tint on a lovely 50 year old Douglas Fir mast. However not really practical for small jobs because it is expensive and not available in small sizes, only 1L for each part at £35 each. Does look good and it took over half of the tins to do this mast leaving enough for a top up in 5-7 years' time
