Hi!
It's the first time I post here, so hello all.
I'm interested on buying a Varne 27.
I've seen the boat and read a bit about it and I really like it.
The only thing that worries me it's the bed size. The front one seemed a bit small and the one you can make in the settees doesn't seem easy enough to make everyday and also not too comfortable...
Anyone could tell me the size of the front bed? I'm nearly 6'
I found the Varne association on the web. But you have to be a member to have access.
Thank you very much!
Cheers

Hi, Andrescel.

The Varne is a fine seaboat and it's designer, Duncan Stuart freely admits that no concessions were made for people over 5'10"! That allowed him to keep windage low with minimal freeboard, yet the fine entry and knuckle on the bow still makes it a remarkably dry boat. The berths are a little tight on many exanples, although as many were home completed, there are a variety of layouts some of which may suit you. You will simply have to take each available boat as you find it.

Other variations include the choice of either a shaft driving engine or a saildrive leg. The original keel is a sabre shaped lead/antimony casting, though a few were built with cast iron keels which were deeper to maintain the CoG. After Varne ceased trading, around a dozen more boats were produced as the Weston 8500. These have a few inches extra freeboard which gives four inches increased headroom (arund 6'2" in the main saloon). They were also offered with the options of lifting keel or bilge keels.

Good luck in your seach for the boat of your dreams.

Rob.
