Was it rammed when you were there?
No not really, this year have been there a couple of times in May +another time a couple of days ago, not full season yet but plenty of space. With a 44' average beam the most likely place you will be given will be in the area between the Capitainerie and the Office de Tourisme (opposite) so possibly a "ponton lineaire" (mooring alongside) or rafting along with someone already there (you may have a look at the webcam to get the idea). There is plenty of room to pivot the boat however you like.
If you are there at the opening, a port service boat will come to the bridge to give you directions; otherwise call ch9.

Re toilets: if you are moored on the Tourist office side, there is a pedestrian passerelle which allows to go directly to the Capitainerie: it is kept open with the same schedule of the bridge, in which case should any need urge you will have to walk all the way until the end of the port basin and back again to the Capitainerie.

There are lavatories behind the Tourist Office but used by the general public.
You have been warned 🙄

Hey, when needs must. Another surprise here is the number of blokes who tie up on a busy pontoon and just take a pee off the edge. I am a great believer in doing as the locals do…

Not really familiar with buoy borrowing etiquette in France (or anywhere really), particularly because we are on the big side for these parts at 44ft and c.13 tons and don’t want to damage someone’s gear but good to know what’s around if it becomes a distressed decision!
Just come back from a week in Morbihan with top and tail in Vannes. 34ft so a lot smaller but we borrowed moorings most evenings without incident. I noticed that some of them were marked with a weight limit. Certainly the ones we used seemed pretty substantial. Most of the mooring areas you can anchor near as well. Try not to get on a mooring/anchorage near a ferry route as they generate a lot of wash but don't go too late into evening.

When you go into through the bridge up to Vannes, those coming out have priority. Luckily I wasn't on board when they found that out!

Code we used on Friday/Saturday 16/17 was 0615* but don't know when they change it.

Cheers Mike - that’s helpful and reassuring. Guess you’ll hear tomorrow either a “don’t know what I was so worried about” message on here or a mayday from atop a substantial rock somewhere in the Golfe. Not long now either way…
