We are replacing the old chain because we are putting on an electronic windlass and it won't fit. The view is that the old chain has no value - surely this can't be true? In an age when lowlife are pinching manhole covers, cables and street signs this chain must have a scrap value. Has anyone tried selling old stuff? .... not sure how I could move it if I did sell it but, where there is a will there is a way.

It is possible to weigh in any kind of scrap, although this may have become more difficult recently in the wake of various illegal activities. I gave my scrap chain to a dinghy sailing club who use it for temporary racing marks.

If it is truly scrap, then there must be a local scrappie who would give you something for it. If it is in generally good nick but just doesn't fit why not advertise it on the For Sale forum?

Sell it here cheaply, there is always someone who will be pleased with it!

Hi WYLMAW, we use scrap chain as an anchor across the creek at our sailing club - are you anywhere near Yorkshire?

About £300 tonne, local scrappy; just need ID (drivers licence ok at my scrappy), dont get cash but a cheque through the post.

That's where mine went, and the old anchor off the last boat; several ex boat batteries. £100 for 30mins work taking it there :D
