i have the above circa. 1988. it is linked to a seafarer depthsounder(as a safety check). the seafarer works fine. the vdo unit however is very tempermental. mostly it shows --- but if i fiddle with the switches onthe other vdo instruments it sometimes works fine(using the seafarer to compare) other times the depths are totally wrong. do i need to dump the vdo. ps. the unit was sent back to vdo in birmingham but because it was so old ? they sent it back because they did not have the equipment to check it.

It may be a loose or dirty connection in your wiring. otherwise I don't think there's much you can do with it. inside is probably just a printed circuit board

unless some knows different
