Using pressure washer underwater?

I use a pressure washer underwater to clean the pool. One thing always happens, once underwater the adjustable knob on the tip of the lance (this is beginning to sound naughty) turns to its weakest position straight away by itself

I often do this as part of my job, when we're cleaning an area on an underwater structure to get a better look, or to do an ultrasonic thickness measurement. They work in our environment, but we're using stuff at 6Kpsi/400 bar, and do have to get to within a cm. to get rid of 'hard marine growth', whereas 'soft marine growth' isn't a challenge.
I'm pretty certain that if I wanted to get rid of the hard stuff, I'd not want to use a water jet to do it on MY boat; it's just SO violent to dislodge a barnacle. To use one to get rid of soft growth, a household type of 'Karcher' is ideal for it, but wouldn't be useful on hard growth I believe.

Cavitcleaner

one of the local divers bought the nozzle and matching HI PRESS compressor, much faster than the classic scrapping/brushing the hull
nozzle 1k, prob is getting a decent compressor with high enough throughput and pressure

Has anyone tried a pressure washer underwater to blast off the critters??
I used to use a pressure washer to blast off the fringe of weed which grew on my (then) boat in Kirkcudbright marina. Salinity changes kept the deep down bits clean but the waterline always got a bit frilly.

Underwater you have to keep the nozzle VERY close to the surface you're cleaning, but if you do that it works well. My pressure washer bust mid-clean, but I don't know if that was a reaction to the very slightly higher back-pressure or just coincidence.
