The start of our summer cruise this year was very wet indeed.
As a pleasant result, fortified with the courage comes from a mixture of boredom and a glass of wine I found that the old dark, milky varnish came off interior woodwork fairly well using a carbide scraper. The net result that over the following 3 weeks I have revarnished a big chunk % of the interior woodwork with 3x coats of international original varnish. So far looking pretty good.
I have the head / cabin doors at home for redoing in the garden and I plan to head back to the boat alone soon to finish off the finicky varnishing and perhaps do the floorboards too.
Question being, the varnish I’ve used so far is international original, as that was the only offering available. I’m usually a fan of le tonk for the deep gloss, glassy finish it gives.
Questions being,
1)on the current woodwork with 3x international original varnish, will I be able to put a top coat (or two) of le tonk over the top without mishap?
And
2) if I use only le tonk on the doors, will they be a mile apart in finish to the the bulkhead woodwork they’ll be fitted too or should I do 3x international original then a top coat or two of le tonk?
