Using a Laptop PC for Navigation

For the last 15 years I have been using Tiki Navigator Navionics Gold, most recently v 3.2. I love it and would stay with it forever except that when loaded on my new laptop it asks for a password and these no longer seem to be available even if you are willing to pay for a new subscription, though the web site is atill live.

Has anyone any experience of defeating the password requirement?

Failing a solution to retaining Tiki, my mind is turning to running Navionics boating app on the laptop via an Android simulator but I believe this will not accept GPS and AIS input from my Digital Yacht transponder, is this correct? Again has anyone experience of this set up?

Why not get a tablet and dedicate it to navionics boating app ...... that's what I did ....

Headwolf 8" tablet from Banggood ...... fast, dual 4G sim, SD card expandable, WiFi 2.4 and 5.8 ..... half the price of a Samsung .... far less than an iPad ...

Battery lasts far longer than any PC .... plus its really handy and slips in pocket.

If you already have subscription to Boating - load up and enjoy.

On a PC I would look at OpenCPN and if in the UK, use charts from Visitmyharbour.

Also take a look at MemoryMap with the UK Hydrographic Office charts.

Another vote for Navionics subscription on a tablet in your price range, get a BT keyboard and mouse and you're sorted. If you can stretch to a WiFi gateway, then AIS, GPS, Speed and Depth are available in Navionics.

Until recently - I carried an Acer One on board with full nav capability ..... it now stays at home since I have got used to the Tablet and Smartphone running Navionics Boating.

My NMEA2WiFi (NMEA4WiFi still in box ready to upgrade) integrates all data on board incl AIS to WiFi and feeds my Tablet / Garmin UHD / Smartphone / Plotter and any guest phone onboard.

I’m now using MemoryMap since the latest Navionics update does not work on my elderly iPad. Thinking of buying a Doogee rugged Android tablet and going back to Navionics next year.

I have setup a Raspberry pi with open plotter and can connect wirlessly to my Tablet and Laptop. I can receive AIS and GPS and can read my instrument Data Via Seatalk, I would like a multiplexer but cant afford one. At the moment I cant use my Autohelm whilst connected to the seatalk bus

I know there are other units out there - but this does all for me ...

There is one item missing from it - which TBH - I don't miss at all ... N2000 ...

Its small .. easy to setup. The instructions mention that case does not have hole for USB cable .. that was easy to fix .. I just took snips and made hole myself ...

I had a similar problem and it was due to the Seatalk1 bus being overloaded with data routed from other busses by the WiFi router - the Autopilot just wouldn't hold a course. Removing all routing of data to Seatalk1 in the routing table of the YDNR-02N solved the problem.
