USGRIB

It's been a long time since I used USGrib but I remember that their systems were designed to only allow a user to connect from a very limited number of different IP addresses (I have a feeling it was only 5). I suspect this was intended to keep it as a 'personal' product rather than a 'commercial' one. The problem of course is that most sailors move and connect from a different IP address at every wifi hotspot they connect from, so it didn't take long before you were faced with an error message telling you you'd used too many connections and there seemed to be no way to reset that. When zyGrib arrived people deserted USGrib faster than rats on a sinking ship and it just died.

>I would guess they still use the same limited IP address model though....?

Since we stopped sailing I haven't used it but I would expect they still limit IP addresses, I've never understood why they do it.

I don't think they realised that sailors move. I think they were focused on US boaters who go out for the weekend and come back to the same place.
