Hi, I am looking for a boatyard in or around Marbella where I can lift the boat (12 Metre Sailing Yacht) and carry out routine maintenance (anti-fouling, dek painting, engine service, topsides polish, engine service) by myself, without having to employ the boatyard's own staff. Ideally liveaboard whilst doing the work but this is not essential.

Can any body suggest such a yard

Boat currently moored in Marbella, but reasonable travel not a problem.

Hoping to do this in April of this year

We use Isla Verde in Algecieras for our yachts.

You can do all the work and live on the boat. there are showers and a nearby cheap canteen.

Top tip, pick up your antifouling paint in Gib.

Best of all, Isla Verde is in the Customs duty free area of the Port. No IVA.

If you are interested, email info@isla-verde.es. The manager, Miguel speaks fluent English.

Hope this helps.

Most have shut the door on owners working and living on board whilst on the hard..
With an unemployment rate of 25+% its understandable.. much as one might bitch about it.
However.. if one can do the work afloat there's no restrictions.

I don't know if it is still true but when I stayed in Marina La Bajadilla in Marbella in 2007 this was possible.

Apparently when the port was redeveloped there was a clause put in the agreement to protect users of the marina/harbour who could use a reserved portion of the hard to do their own work. I was told that this was done as the local fisherman were very vocal in preserving their traditional rights to work on their own boats and it was to satisfy them.

When I found out about it I booked a slot and spent about 4 weeks on the hard replacing seacocks, cutless bearings etc.

If I remember right there was quite a lead time- but that's not a problem if you book ahead.

La B well worth a check. must say though I was there last week and the hardstanding looked quite full.

Its run by Marina Marbella. They also run the yard over in Smir but that is a bit of a trek.

If you would care for a change of scenery Bruce's in Faro meets your requirements.
