I have also been looking at one of these for Hi Fi Work.

Does anyone know of a good budget one with more than 8 bit resolution? That is not really enough for Hi Fi

+1 for the PicoScope; just using mine to spy on some NMEA 0183 traffic, though I'm struggling a bit with the decoding - which is why I stumbled upon this thread. It's a great little unit, and the software is continually being updated. Bonus points for Linux support & UK manufacture.

Edit: Cracked the decoding; all that was needed was to check the "invert" box on the data channel - I can now read the messages sent from my VDO Logic Combi instrument in plain text:
$PBAT,12.4,10.6,18.5,0,0
$PWTE,,,,,,,1
$POTE,,,,,,,1
$POPR,,,,,,,1
$PRPM,0,2500,400,2400,6,2
$PTPR,,,,,,,1
$PFUL,36,100,%,,,0,0
$PWAT,,,,,,,1
$PCLK,0.0,,0.0,0

The instrument is not installed, so most sensors are deactivated (I only have a fuel level sender connected) but I'm excited to see what can be read (PBAT=battery voltage, PWTE=coolant temperature, POTE=oil temperature, POPR=oil pressure, PRPM=engine RPM, PTPR=transmission oil pressure, PFUL=fuel tank level, PWAT=water tank level, PCLK=engine hours). Eventually I plan to log all this data to an on-board computer...
