hi all,

almost everything is on the subject line.
Now with USBC and the power delivery tricks, and with the lockdown due to CV, I'm thinking of upgrading a few of the VIMAR USB sockets on board to USBC PD.
I have done lots of testing on the previous USB .5A and 1.2A and whatnot and they are working fine for charging cameras and phones on board, but now this USBC PD is not something you can do with a few resistors and a dropper.
seen something like this on ebay, not sure if it's any good and if anyone has tried something similar
100W Type-C USB-C PD2.0 3.0 to DC USB fast charge trigger Poll detector 12v 20v | eBay (the industrial grade board I'm talking about)

on board I have:

and behind the scenes it looks much tidier than this (just posting the photo to note there are screw terminals for each usb pin in there):

so, anyone had a go, can suggest something?

cheers

If I understand correctly, the goal is to have a USB-C PD power socket in the boat, to charge devices?
Then this little devide at the ebay link will not help in any way, it's only function is to make a USB-C PD source to output higher voltages (to power some non-PD loads), it will not create a USB-C PD power source from 12 volts on the boat.

You would need something like this: Amazon.com: BiXPower USB Type C Power Converter with 5V, 9V, 12V, 15V & 20V Power Delivery (PD): Home Audio & Theater
NB! To get voltages higher than 12 volts (15, 20) from this and similar converters, it is very likely an anadditional 12V->24V boost converter is needed to power the USB-C PD converter, unless the PD converter has built-in boost circuit, which is doubtful.

thank you trbt,

you understand correctly what I want to do and btw, boat is 24V so no problem there.
However, I'm not paying 45quid for a brick!
further having a USBC output plug is useless to me as I'd somehow want to wire it on the VIMAR socket.
So a "plain" board that would take 24V in and output the 2 or 3 or 4 (dunno) of the 6 iirc typical usb socket pins is what I'm after.
Preferably at a tenner a piece :D
I'd probably need 4-5 of them!

cheers

That brick was just an example (first google result) of a type of converter you'd need, a thorough search on aliexpress or ebay may yield more economical results.
