His he (Barker) going down as the man who had his hand on the cup, but couldnt pick it up!???
Did the his bottle go when his boat nearly capsized???
Or did the Ozs and Brit save the USA ar**???¨:0)
Big loss to NZ (Ackland) something like $90M by not having the 'Cup' there!!!

Partly US starting with a McLaren and finished with a Red Bull, NZ started with a Merc and finished with a Merc, development is all, think Dean Barker just ended with a duff boat.

Did hear that the NZ team will go bust if they don't win the cup.

There was a step improvement in performance after the changes made in Oracle following the playing of their wild card.

Thanks a bloody lot Viking! Have been avoiding news all day in anticipation of watching it on BBC tomorrow. If I wasn't such a gentleman this post would contain a lot of swear words. I'm really pissed off.

To be fair perhaps you should have stayed off a yachting forum too!

I think Dean did a great job. In particular the last race he did everything you could have asked for. Unfortunately Oracle had better resources to throw at this and continued to develop their boat to be the fastest and speed makes a master tactician of almost anyone.

who/what do you think has (mainly) won the cup ? Crews or boats ?

Should the next Cup be identical, who would you hire: Oracle crew or Oracle shore team (designers, developers, etc)

Or put another way, put Spithill Ainslie on ETNZ boat, Barker Davies on Oracle, who wins ?

+1.
TBH I think everyone in our office will know who won by the time the kettle has boiled tomorrow morning. And they're not really sailing people.

Ooooooohhhhhh, can feel those swear words welling up!

"Starboard"
"STARBOARD!"
"STARBOARD, f*cking hell!"

<We apologise to our viewers for any swearing that our microphones may have picked up, right in the thick of the action of this exciting America's Cup>

Amazing - i gave up watching with the "obvious imminent" NZ walkover....

...and any/all of the BBC channels today - blimey they're even trying to get Sir Ben on Chris Evans's show.... :D

...I think Sir Ben would be the first to say there were a multitude of things that contributed to the win, but the speed differential was clear to see in the last race - it looked like the "Americans" had an extra gear....

Love Sky News Headline " Ainslie leads US team to America's Cup victory!"
The Beeb are pretty good too: "Ainslie's Oracle win the America's Cup". Contrasts with the American media - USA Today does not mention Ben, New York Times begrudgingly flags that Ben might have had something to do with the victory but points out that they lost the two races after Ben joined the boat; they focus on design improvements to the boat. They also mention that Oracle had more Kiwis on board (2) than Americans (1) ;-)

It's nearly always the boat. Oracle knocking two minutes off their upwind legs was a bit of a help.

So then, no concerns with that thread title about completely ruining it for the people who might not have been able to stream the race yet?
+1. Luckily I was out last night and avoided the forum altogether, so I was able to watch the highlights this morning without knowing the winner. I would have been well hacked off if I had visited. Way to go.
