USA hiring a motor boat

The question is a friend is off to florida next year and wants to hire a motor boat for a week.
Does anyone know what boating qualifications he will need to satisfy the regs?

We chartered a dirty geat Nordic Tug out of Sarasota earlier this year, they were less interested in paper than ability with quite a comprehensive handover and handling test by a USCG skipper. What a fabulous cruising area, your pal will have a great time I'm sure.

Hired a motor boat in the keys last year

No paper work needed unless you are under 21 then you can take a online safty test
