US of A

Just been talking to the customs and border patrol guys, as you got me interested, as i'm just going, any way you will need a visa london is going to be your easiest and best bet, some of the embassies over this side of the pond are becoming draconian to put it mildly, the last thing you want in your passport is a stamp saying visa denied then you are persona non grata for EVER, apart from that no problems, don,t try and enter the US through a military port, like St Johns river jacksonville as you will be boarded in very unfreindly fashion, looking down the wrong end of a glock/16/.50bmg etc....west palm beach is by far the easiest to clear in at, and all the offices are in the same building less than 15 minutes from the marina........hope this helps......keith.....any more questions pm me

Re: me me

Sorry, can I try and understand through your thick phoney accent?

If you bareboat charter in BVI....

1) Is it worth going over to USVI (we have two weeks - motor boat in BVI)
2) If yes, do you need a US VISA (we all hold UK or Cananda passports)
3) If yes, is it easy/possible to get one in BVI

sorry for being thick old boy - see that's how poshest english speak

Re: me me

okay, firstly, I don't think it's worth it. You will likely pas through some of USVI on the way in/out of BVI as many int'l flights go to st thomas which is one of the usvi. usvi has more people - a lot more people. But it is in many parts quite scruffy, not paradisey like many parts of BVI.

I think you should loaf about a lot in BVI, gently exploring every single place. It doesn't get better than:

that bay around saba rock + bitter end 2nights,
norman island, 2nights
green garden cay, sandy cay sopers hole, 2nights
whitesand bay and great bay 1 night
cooper island lunch, marina cay or trellis bay 2nights
peter island 2 nights
11 nights there, first and last may have to be at the rental place (nany cay?) so erm you'll have to chop it down. oh and there's anegada too, forgot about that, oh and the sunsail base at the east of tortola has a free freshwater pool and catch up on tv news over lunch at the bar, oh, and etc etc.

You could go to Road Town if you deperatley need more towniness. I did a big post bout this some time ago, try searching for Saba and Norman

You need positive approval from yr charter company to travel in and out of USVI from BVI and need to clear customs outwards, which is slow and sleepy, in the west end of tortola the main island, and then inwards, on st john or st thomas, also sleepy and slow.

But going to USVI from BVI is a bit like hiring a boat in the solent for a week and going to brighton for three days. Sorry brighton.

Mum and sister are in Florda now, they went 2 weeks ago. They just went with the visa waiver thing that you get when you land over there.. cost $15 or so from memory and is good for three months.

Suspect rules are different if travelling independantly.

Nick

The last time I went the company booked me into an hotel. I marked the name on the green slip together with the name of the street. (This was a large chain hotel).
The immigration officer asked me for the number in the street and I didn't know it and he refused to let me in. Another of his colleages however called me over and gave me the visa.

As President Bush, that devout, god fearing, born again christian once said, what a major league arsehole.
