Just had a conversation wiv' my bruv' He was telling me, that to get a visa for the states, you now need to go to LOndonium, for a FOUR hour interview, before yo will be issued with a visa, if atall! Does anybody know anything about this and have the rules changed for getting a visa, in say Barbados, for the states? We also believe they are making it very difficult for visiting yachts, becasue of terrorist threats etc. Does anybody have any details, ideas about this? please.

That's a bit rich isn't it. I thought good old blighty were supposed to be their main allies, suppose they've already forgotten that.

I bet for them to come here all they have to do is buy a plane ticket.

Does this apply when just flying over there for a holiday then, i thought they abolished the visa system for brits about 10 years ago, don't you just arrive a customs with your passport as usual?

No problem for holidays - still just need to complete the green card on the plane, as long as you dont tick the box that asks if you intend carrying out any terrorist act whilst on holiday you should be OK :)

Yes but none of them will fly anywhere. They really are a paranoid nation. Their lack of world persective is frightening (especially the Administration!).

You have to arrive by certified carrier etc. Arriving by private yacht is a completely different case, used to be easy, now apparently a pain in the arse! But what really worries me, is what happens when you apply in some out of the way place. Will they make you apply in your home country and how long will your visa last? I used toi have a multiple entry valid indefinitely visa, thats all gone now.

i think they do a get a tougher ride through immigration into the uk than they used to. Part of a quid pro quo.

although it pales compared with USA. a colleague of mine going with family to Disney land was grilled for an hour and a half to confirm he wasnot going on business. this is despite having 2 week ticket for disney four kids with him and wife.
his previous entry had been a business trip ( To New York) and they wanted to make sure he was not going to conduct any business. in the end he emptied his case and said look no suits no computer no papers.

It doesn't look good for getting visas in out of the way places, does it? Looks like "fortress USA"!

colin best thing to do is contact the US embassy in spain and find out.
I cannot believe it is impossible
with these things the biggest part is always the other end
you have been told you have all the right papers only toarrive to find some little jobsworth at the other end who insists on another six forms plus a cash 'ahem ' Fee

One of the reasons I'm asking this, is I may cut short my meddy cruise next year, go to malta, fill up with diesel, head back to Gib, refuel, small refit with new downwind sails and 2x200 gal bagtanks, then Canaries, Cape Verdes and Barbados, I'm a little concerned about going any further east, with all the terrorist threats etc. I know I'm chicken, but stuff it, I've enough bloody bullet holes!

Re: me me

ah but that sailbad knows nothing about it whereas I know exactly where to get a nice USVI visitors visa from BVI - in Sopers Hole on Tortola. You don't need a visa (from londinium) to transit USVI nor for hol in USVI.

Anyway, you have to go thru immigration there and again on st john or st thomas on way into USVI. Don't think USVI visa good for USA, but not sure. However, once pased into USVI, bet a lot simpler to go to US. But dunno.

Anyway, I do know that USVI is much higher crime rate so one should not just tralah turn up and assume yo man laid back atmosphere of BVI and more eastern caribee. I was talking to US lawyer bout this: any ole US citizen can arrive in USVI whereas BVI is restricted to non-riff-raff types and anyone from UK for example wanting residency can't just turn up and live there. For example, people with sheep shit on their oilies would be turfed out immediately.

Re: me me

You can't get a visa for the USA in USVI, I know, we tried, last time, they made us go to BVI to get one for USA, but the USA embassy, types wouldn't give us one! He said you've got one?? We ended up going to Antigua. Where it was very difficult, they wanted us to go to our country of origin (UK) Thats why I'm worried about going over there and going through the shit again, only much worse now.
