Hi all,

I’m urgently looking for detailed information about the rudder blade of a Jeanneau Sun Magic 44 (late 1980s / early 1990s).

As far as I understand, this is the same design used on the Sun Odyssey 44 and the Atlantic 44 (all based on the Daniel Andrieu design), with a spade rudder configuration.

I need to rebuild the rudder blade from scratch and I’m trying to gather as much technical information as possible, including:

* Overall dimensions (height, chord lengths, thickness distribution)
* Rudder stock diameter and position (balance ratio)
* Section shape (NACA profile or similar)
* Construction details (foam core, laminate schedule, materials, stock bonding, etc.)
* buoyancy considerations (solid vs foam-filled)
* Any drawings, original plans, or measurements from an existing rudder

Even partial measurements, photos with scale, or personal experience rebuilding one would be extremely helpful.

If anyone has already rebuilt or repaired a rudder on this model (or a sistership), I’d really appreciate your input.

Thanks in advance!

For my older jeanneau I found the jeanneau owners forums, Facebook groups useful. Also try clarke and carter in Burnham on crouch as they are jeanneau dealers and can sometimes source parts or info for older boats

Ask Jeanneau. A friend with a Sun Magic needed to make all the reinforcing laminate around the skeg area and add the rudder post metal reinforcing structure (as you may know, it was one of the very few design flaws of that model), Jeanneau provided all the instructions.
As for the profile, you can t be wrong with a NACA 0012, used in most standard rudders. I have a Sun Legende 41 (smaller brother), same 50mm shaft, the upper rudder chord is 700mm, that makes about 84mm max thickness, the rudder is partially compensated so maybe 75mm thickness around the shaft ==> 50mm + laminate thickness.
I have this on my files
