It seems odd they cannot locate it as it was under tow when it went down?

Was it called the Black Pearl per chance? Maybe it is still sailing around under water and Disney will start a new series of films - "Pirates of the Couch and Roach"

Who will play Captain Jack Sparrow - clearly Jim is a double for Johnny Depp but with his boat problems does he have the time?

It does seem very odd they cant locate it !. And yep, imagine that happening just before Burnham week /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

thanks for this Jim.

we actually passed this vessel under tow on our way to Shotley. We passed it near Sunken Buxey, must have been just a few minutes before the end...

I know someone who owns (owned?) an old wooden ice-breaking fishing boat with a Danish Name I can't remember. It was moored on the outside pontoon at Wallasea and was blue. Marvellous thing it was - the owner brought it back from Plymouth singlehanded. It had a commercial licence and was very well equipped - I know that good electronics don't stop you sinking per se!

Anyway, does this sound like the vessel in question?

Seems odd that the wreck has not been positively located - we have a position for it, and with modern fish finders etc. I would have thought that it would have been straight forward for a vessel of this size.

Presumably it is not a problem for surface navigation? My chart is on board so can't see what sort of depth of water it is likely to be in.

Thanks Jim, added to my charts (still owe you) and the small red cross centre of pic shows location.

I seem to remember spending a lot of time last year in that exact position as the wind provided just enough drive to counter the tide, hence no forward motion..... who'd enjoy Burnham Week eh?

I did! Will be doing it in my new boat this year - Moon Dancer. Anyone else doing it?
