Lots of posts here lately about boatspeed surfing down wind and down waves at high speed. These speeds all excede the expected calculated hull speeds, which is what I would expect for downhill sailing with a modern hull design. But where calculated hull speed really has an effect is upwind. Much more difficult to overcome when hard on the wind. I never could in the monohulls that I sailed. This is when being free from hull speed constraints can really make a difference. What about this for a boat with a 9m LWL...
